THE LONG VERSION

in third person, because writing about yourself in first person feels icky
BACKGROUND
formative years
During her senior year at Vanderbilt University, Maja joined the marketing team at LeanKit (a B2B visual management software company which has since been acquired by Planview) as an intern.
She showed a natural interest in writing (she came to Nashville as a songwriter, after all), and was soon assigned a large backlog of SEO-driven blog posts that the brand had been wanting to write.
Maja’s four years of elective songwriting classes translated surprisingly well into the world of tech writing. Her conversational, friendly, but authoritative way with words breathed new life into LeanKit’s content efforts. After learning the basics of writing for SEO, over the next 2+ years, Maja authored close to 100 pieces of content for the LeanKit brand.
As the youngest person in the company with any interest in social media, Maja was also tasked with managing the company’s Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn presence. Although new to corporate social media management, Maja learned quickly by listening to podcasts, watching webinars, and attending content and social media marketing conferences.
In 2017, Maja left LeanKit to pursue a freelance career in content and social media marketing. She was immediately hired by LeanKit to continue writing SEO-driven articles and ebooks and thought leadership-style blogs.
a crash course in healthcare marketing
At the same time, her parents, both physicians in Jonesboro, Arkansas, opened private practices in their respective medical fields (rheumatology and plastic surgery).
Maja decided to set tech writing aside for a while to help her parents (both first time business owners) navigate the first year of business. It was during this time that Maja first began learning the basics of website development and graphic design, in order to accommodate the needs of the brand-new clinics.
Starting with just a few logos that had been designed by a different designer, over the course of about a year, Maja developed a recognizable, cohesive visual brand for each of the three clinics, complete with website, social media graphics, ads, scrubs and other apparel for the team, forms and menus, signage, and the interior design of the clinics.
She also developed a sustainable marketing system that includes organic and paid social media, email newsletters, blogs, PR outreach, events, and maintaining the physicians’ presence on online review sites. She also manages the vendor relationships for the plastic surgery clinic and spa.
By the end of 2018, Maja had worked to automate much of the marketing activity for the clinics, and felt comfortable opening more of her time to opportunities in tech.
She hired Megan O’Neill to assist with ad design, blogging, and social media management for the healthcare practices, so that she could take on new clients.
lately: back to her roots in tech
Recently, in addition to her roles at the clinics, Maja has worked to develop cohesive, thoughtful content and social media marketing systems for an intentionally small number of clients.
She’s passionate about creating SEO-friendly content that is well-researched, thoughtful, timely, and on-message. She enjoys diving deeply into the topics that matter most to her clients’ customers, especially anything related to personal development, personal finance, or psychology.
Maja manages the daily social media presence for Simple Finance, Clearbit, Majewski Plastic Surgery and Spa, and ARA Jonesboro.
always: dogs > people
One of Maja’s favorite parts of working for herself is that she is able to devote a lot of time to those she loves most: dogs.
In addition to walking with, photographing, and finding ways to entertain her German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) Wrigley (@chocolatedippedwrigley), Maja also volunteers at the Nashville Humane Association once or twice a week. She uses her Instagram know-how to promote adoptable dogs @adoptmenashville.
